The Bengal Cat : is a distinct, unique breed of spotted domestic cat derived from the ancestral crossing of a domestic cat such as an Abyssinian, American Shorthair, Burmese or Egyptian Mau with an Asian Leopard Cat. The name “Bengal” is derived from the Latin name of the Asian Leopard Cat, Feline Bengalensis. The domestic Bengal has inherited the exotic, stunningly wild spotted pattern from the Asian Leopard Cat, found in the wild in central Asia. This beautiful breed of cat is very loving, affectionate and friendly whilst retaining the uniqueness of it`s wild ancestors. Fourth generation determines the cut off generation for designation as a domestic cat. Any Bengal with an Asian Leopard cat in a three generation pedigree is considered to be a foundation Bengal.

The Bengal Coat : The Bengal cat has a very soft short coat that is slightly longer in kittens, it is thick and luxurious. The Bengal comes in two coat patterns THE SPOTTED & THE MARBLE, Bengals also come in two basic colours with variations within each  colour, THE BROWN & THE SNOW  (Blue eyed & Any other colour eyed), it is desirable for Bengals cats to have Glitter.
There are other colours such as Silver, Blue & Cinnamon, but these colours are not recognised in this country yet, but are in the USA & other countries. They have to be registered on the Reference Register at this point in time meaning they cannot be shown at G.C.C.F shows, neither can their offspring for 4 generations. These can however be shown in the TICA shows.
